Naomi Lester, PhD

Current Roles

Dr. Lester is a core faculty member in the Department of Counseling & Health Psychology. She teaches a variety of courses in the department, serves as an academic advisor for psychology students, works on curriculum and program development projects, and conducts research in the area of stress, coping and physical pain. 

Education

  • PhD in medical psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland in 1992

Past Experience

Dr. Lester has worked as a researcher at Duke University Medical Center and as a professor at the University of North Florida and the University of Washington.

Interests

Dr. Lester's research interest areas include stress, stress management, coping and physical pain.

Philosophy

Dr. Lester believes a teacher should create a challenging classroom environment that promotes active learning and independent thinking. She believes that teaching is a partnership between professor and student and that enthusiasm about learning should be demonstrated on both sides.
